Breakthrough scientific research shows that the Clevamama memory foam pillow reduces flat head syndrome in babies.
New research from Trinity college has shown that using the Clevamama memory foam mattress or pillow instead of a standard mattress can significantly reduce flat head syndrome common in young babies.
Deformational plagiocephaly, the medical condition more commonly known as flat head syndrome, affects many infants, especially since the widespread introduction of recommending to place baby on their backs to avoid cot deaths.
Research at Trinity College Dublin Centre for Bioengineering performed a scientific analysis of the Clevamama memory foam pillow and found that it can reduce the pressure on the infants skullwhich aggravates flat head syndrome.
Using a computational model of baby's head, the researchers investigated the biomechanics of contact between the soft back of the skull and supporting materials - first, a generic mattress typically found in cots and then, the Clevamama polyurethane foam pillow placed on top of the same mattress. The study found:
- Lower stress distribution and lower strain energy denisity
- Reduced pressure on the babies cranium by almost 50% While providing more than 80% more contact with the head
- Low profile pillow, sufficiently low and not too stiff, allowing the babies head to rest in the natural position that does not restrict the airways
